Introduction

Soft Skills are defined as a combination of people skills, social skills, communication skills, character traits, attitudes, career attribute, social intelligence and emotional intelligence quotients among others that enable people to navigate their environment, work well with others, perform well, and achieve their goals. The Collins English Dictionary defines the term “soft skills” as “desirable qualities for certain forms of employment that do not depend on acquired knowledge: they include common sense, the ability to deal with people, and a positive flexible attitude.

In this lesson, we will review the basic soft skills that will help you in the workplace.

CORE COMPETENCIES

COMMUNICATION – The act or process of using words, sounds, signs, or behaviors to express or exchange information.

COLLABORATION – To work with another person or group in order to achieve or do something.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION – The act of finding an answer or solution to a strong disagreement between people, groups, etc.

CONFIDENCE—a feeling or belief that you can do something well or succeed at something.

CREATIVITY—the ability to make new things or think of new ideas.

CHARACTER—the way someone thinks, feels, and behaves.

TIME MANAGEMENT – the ability to use one’s time effectively or productively especially at work

DECISION MAKING – Learn how to make better decisions

PROBLEM SOLVING – Learn how to solve problems

BEHAVIORAL INTERVIEW – Learn how to secure your desired job
