Be a Hero – Order

Order is one of those words that has multiple meanings. Heroes live an ordered life. They understand that there is a hierarchy – they answer to authority. They also commit to keeping their lives in order even when situations can be out of control. We cannot control everything, but the things we can control, be a hero and take ownership of them.

Have you ever had to be on a team or in a classroom with a coach or teacher that you just didn’t like? It can be hard to control our behavior when we don’t like the leader we have. But I challenge you to talk it over with your parents and even the coach/teacher to see how you can improve the situation. Sometimes, it’s a simple as spending more time with them to get to know them better. Also, adjust your attitude to remember that they are in charge. Be willing to try new things under their leadership and see what is possible to learn and personally grow.

Colt was on a deck hockey team with a new coach. Coach Sumter had a style of coaching that Colt didn’t like. He had been playing hockey for a few years now and really thought he knew better than this newbie coach. The first half of the season was rough. Colt emotionally had a difficult time getting along with Coach Sumter. But, he knew that she was in charge, not him. He talked with his parents about how he felt and got their advice about how to work with her. He also came to practices and games with a better attitude. He decided to help cheer on the team and be positive. He put into practice the reality that it wasn’t his job to make decisions for the team. He stopped getting so upset even though he disagreed with Coach Sumter’s ideas. By being a hero and choosing to walk in order with his coach, things started to turn around for the team. Everyone started to work together a lot better because Colt and the coach’s tensions had started to dissolve. Colt didn’t realize how much his negative thoughts and feelings were affecting everyone. Soon, they started winning games and even went to the championship. Their team became very productive and lost to a great team in the league by only a few points. Colt left that year knowing that he put things back in order with how he viewed the coach, and that made for a much better experience on the hockey team.

Heroes also know how to use their time in an orderly way. They accomplish what they need to do and find time to relax with friends and family! Make a family schedule and plan some events together. It’s important to have balance in your life. We can’t operate in distress for very long, so do things that get rid of those feelings. Ride your bike, walk your dog, read a book, or listen to your favorite music in your room (not too loud though!) Creating order in your life means that you are not too extreme – not extremely working and not extremely lazy. Create a good balance for your life to thrive as a hero!
